Douglas Fir
Dense, slow-grown lumber with tight rings, historic milling marks and exceptional visual depth.
FOURTH-GENERATION ALBERTA FARM • EST. 1917
Genuine historic barnwood, old-growth lumber and one-of-a-kind timbers — reclaimed directly from our family farm.
THE STORY
Fourth-Field Reclamations began while restoring and dismantling historic buildings across our Alberta family farm, established in 1917.
Many boards were milled from slow-grown Douglas fir and spent generations as barns, corrals, grain structures and working farm fixtures. Rather than see that material buried or burned, we recover it carefully and prepare it for its next life.

CURRENT MATERIAL
Inventory changes continuously as additional buildings and material are reclaimed. Send a reference photo or rough concept and we can often match the look.

Dense, slow-grown lumber with tight rings, historic milling marks and exceptional visual depth.

Mostly 2×6, with larger sizes available. One- and two-sided grey, from clean faces to deeply weathered character.

Distinctive surfaces created by decades of Alberta sun, wind and livestock contact.

Naturally weathered colour families including classic grey, aged brown, heritage brown and tri-grey mixes.

For mantels, exposed framing, furniture and custom builds — with clean or weathered edges available.

Barn manger boards, wide paneling, fir slabs, deep-grooved boards and other unusual historic pieces.
PREPARED WITH CARE
We preserve genuine character while preparing reclaimed material for its next project.
Fasteners removed; embedded metal is disclosed where known.
Boards are scanned numerous times before delivery to reduce risk to blades and tooling.
Typical prepared stock measures approximately 5–10% moisture.
Faces are brushed and vacuumed; pressure washing is avoided where it would strip character.
Lumber is heat-treated to a minimum 56°C core temperature for at least 30 continuous minutes. Digital treatment documentation is available. Currently limited to 10 ft lengths.

PROVENANCE INCLUDED
All sales include a Certificate of Authenticity, and most include a photo of the original structure — giving woodworkers, contractors, designers and DIY builders a genuine story behind the material.
